PREFACE

The Taitung City Lantern Festivity nowadays has 60 years yet. Everyone who’s

 native-born in Taitung they all had feels the lively atmosphere in this festival.

Therefore to make clear the Taitung Lantern Festival traditional culture and the

value of tourism, Taitung County arranged traditional folklore festivity and particular

 artistic expression to improve this festival value and to achieve the sustainable

management purpose of the City Festival. This year through the “2006 TAITUNG

 CITY LANTERN FESTIVAL--WELCOME TO THE

HANDAN GOD FESTIVITY” we hope to attract more

visitors come to Taitung and enjoy in the festival with

 us.
The yearly “Lantern Festival Takes a Stroll” found by

non-government sectors and temple organization that

possess have traditional regionalism cultural and history

value. The kind of festivity represented to blessing for

the Country and the People. The “ Five major grains

harvest and Takes a Stroll ” is the particular festivity in Taitung. Especially the HANDAN

 GOD has more mystic and folklore rumors. No matter the HANDAN was called “Roue”

that can corrects his faults or the “Martial God of Wealth” to blessing people he had

become a best theme of edified the devout men and women. So that “HANDAN GOD”

 ranks in fame with the sky lanterns in Taipei County’s Pinghsi and Yanshui’s fireworks

 in the south as a well-known traditional folk festivity.
    We hope our country peoples and foreign friends to come to Taitung to experience

and enjoy “The Motherland of Sun, The City of Raising -Taitung” with us.
